Foods around the world

Food culture class test coming..
Im trying to make myself remember all the funny funny names of the food all around the worlds..
Wakakaka~
Let me bring you guys travel all around the world~
1st destination..
Britain and Ireland
they eat roasted beef or lamb with Yorkshire puddings,
preserved and smoked fish as appetizer or at breakfast such as Kippers
Soda bread made with baking soda instead of yeast
Potates are the mainstay of the Irish diet such as Stobhach gaelach there are some side dishes made of potatoes,for example
Boxty, a type of potato pancake or dumpling
Bubble and squeak, a dish made of leftover cabbage and potatoes chopped and fried together
Colcannon, mashed and seasoned boiled white vegetables with onions and leeks
Just remember that Irish loves potatoes alot!
As the cultural identity, they call Irish as POTATOES!
Let's move on to France,
There are 5 basic sauces in France's cooking style:
Espagnole(brown sauce), made with brown stock,mirepoix and roux
Veloute, made with white stock,roux,onions and spices
Bechamel(cream sauce), made with white stock, tomatoes, onions, carrots and roux
Hallandaise, made with egg yolks, butter and flavoured with terragon
Cold sauces, mayonnaise(egg, vinegar and oil) and vinaigrette(vinegar&oil)
There's some France pastries can be seen in Malaysia such as
Flaky croissants, cream puff multilayered puff pastry
In Burgundy, they eat Escargot (snails raised in grape vines,cooked in garlic butter and served in the shell)
another region of France named Provence,
it has the similiar diet as Italy and Spain, because they mainly consumed tomatoes,garlic and olive oil
Ratatouille, which cooked by tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, zucchini in olive oil and roasted beef
The next destination, Spain
Spanish seems eat all the time,they eat from 8am to 10pm..
After lunch,they take a nap which named Siesta
There are two special foods in Spain,which are
Paella, cooked in large flat frypan; contains vegetables, meat and seafood; rice,saffron and olive oild are added
Tapas, fingers food!
Fly Fly Fly, Fly to Italy,
as we all know, italy famous with spaghetti and Lasagna..
the famous spaghetti named Tagliatelle which is a medium width flat noodles
Risotto, a creamy rice dished cooked in butter and chicken stock, flavoured with Parmesan cheese and Saffron
Foccasia, a savoury flat bread
there's another type of pizza named Calzone, the pizza dough is folded over fillings of cheese, ham,salami then baked or fried.
The area best known cheese is Mozzarella, white elastic cheese,originally made of buffalo's milk.
Marsala is a sweet amber wine made originally from the grapes of Sicily. It imparts a distinctive flavor to this dish, and when added to the chicken and mushrooms, it is just fantastico!
And now we come to Greece,
greece is located in south of Europe,
it's influenced lots by Middle East, Turkey and also Mediterranean
That's a dessert made with filo dough called Bakhlava
Moussaka, made with minced lamb, eggplants, onions, tomato sauce, baked in dish lined with eggplant slices
They seldom drink milk,but they will fermented the milk into yogurt or cheese
Kabob or Kebab which influenced by Middle East is famous in Greece,
Gyros(Kyrros), thin slices of meat cut from many layers of lamb arranged on a rotisserie and baked as single roast
The fruits juices such as Sharbat and Serbet
Their meals may begin with Mezze or appetizers
Have been almost covered bout the major in Europe countries..
Let's fly to Africa,the most hectic one....
West Africa
their staple foods are corn,millet,rice,yams,cassava,plantains,sweet potatoes
they usually boiled and pounded these into a paste
such as Fufu,Kenkey,Couscous,Gari and Kelewele
Pili-pili, a sauce made by chile peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic and horseradish
Due to urbanization,there are some street foods in West Africa such as,
Chin-Chins, sweet fried pastries topped with sugar and cinnamon
Togbei (sheep balls), sweetened dough balls made from millet or wheat flour
Ethiopian,Eritirean,Somalian and Sudanese
Ethiopian Eastern Orthodox religion has also faciliated development of vegetarian fare
such as
Yataklete kilkil,garlic and ginger which flavoured with casserole
Yemiser selatta, lentil salad
Mitin shiro, mixture of ground legumes added to vegetarian stews
The Ethiopian cuisine
'Wat', stew with okra,chicken and whole boiled egg
Berbere, hot spice mixture used to flavour foods
Niter kebbeh, clarified butter with onions,garlic,ginger and other spices is added to many dishes
'Tej', fermented honey beverage
Tella, millet or corn beer
Eritrean cuisine
seafood
bread with shuro,thick paste made from chickpeas,onions,tomatoes and berbere
coffee and sowa,a bitter fermented barley beverage
Somalian Cuisine
Most Muslim and halal
Camel milk consumed
Sudanese Cuisine
Middle Eastern and African influences
salad of cucumber and yoghurt served with okra stew and injera
East Africa
bread,chapatis,kitumbua(rice fritter),mandazi(slightly sweetened doughnut) are common at every meal
Kenya cuisine
Ugali, thick,doughy cornmeal porridge
mashed beans, lentils,corns,plantains and potatoes are popular too
Ugandan cuisine
peanuts=staple food
Tanzania cuisine
Plaintains used in stews, soups,fritters,custards and also wine
North Africa
similar dish but different name
Moroccan's tangia vs. Tunisian's coucha
both are slow cooked in an urn over wood fire or ashes of coal for at least 6hours

Moroccan's tajine, slow-cooked stew
vs.
Tunisian's tajine, baked omelette-liked fish
South African
they are strong influenced by European
have heavily meat and seafood based
Braai(barbecue), social gathering
Sosaties, Grilled and skewered meat
Boerewors, sausage
Bredie, mutton stew
Frikkadels, braised meat patties
Boboties, meat loaf flavoured curry
Biltong, dried and preserved meat strips
Atjar, preserved unripe fruits or vegetables in fish oil, vegetable oil and spices
